TOP 10 KPOP SONG OF 2014


The music I’ve listened to most of 2014 is KPOP songs. So here is my list of the best KPOP music in 2014.

1) "EYES, NOSE, LIPS" BY TAEYANG

This is the best KPop song that came in 2014 and probably one of the best KPop ballads ever.  The song “Eyes, Nose, Lips” really used Taeyang singing talent.  Taeyang excellent singing runs and distinct tone was a perfect match with beautiful melody and production of the song.  In addition the video is sexy as hell with a great homage to another super sexy video of all time D’Angelo’s “How Does It Feel.

“Eye, Nose, Lips” won numerous awards and top different music charts.  Plus it’s probably the most covered KPop song in 2014. 




2) "200%" BY AKDONG MUSICIAM (AKMU)

Siblings Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Suhyun of Akdong Musican are one talented Kpop artists right now.  Their voices sound so pristine and innocent.  There’s this delicious quality in their voices that you just want to gobble up.  “200%” in my opinion is their best song they released in 2014.  Also I’m in love with the video.  It’s so simple and fresh with the very sneaky revelation in the middle. It is really a smart video that completely matches a great song.





3)"GROWL" BY EXO

Let just say 2014 is the year for EXO, realising 2 big songs that dominated the charts, and exploding fan base.  “Growl” is the most sophisticated song EXO release so far.  It’s has a great groove and swag without over doing it.  It’s like everyone involve in the production put the proper amount of ingredients. The one shot filming of the video is a genius innovation of doing a box filming that SM Entertainment loves so much.

Here's another dance video post, this time Glee's dancer-actor and hottie extra ordinare Harry Shum jr. I think this is best way to use the treadmill. I don't usually use it to work out because it's boring as hell, but dance treading seems really fun to do.

Here's the United Colors of Benetton's ad in support of United Nation's Women - "End Violence against Women Now!" campaign.

Here's a beautiful fairy tale version of the children's game - "Rock, Paper, Scissors".

 When Rock stumbles upon the magical Paper, it's love at first sight. But when the wrath of Scissors threatens the well-being of Paper, Rock must stop at nothing to save what he loves most, no matter the cost. “Broken: Rock, Paper, Scissors” is a student animated short film, produced at Ringling College of Art & Design. It’s our own visual representation of the children’s game, with the intent to portray the beauty and sacrifice that love creates.

ART INSPIRATION - ERNEST CONCEPTION

New York based Filipino artist Ernest Conception has been producing these fascinating works that combines combine cinematic landscape, anime, pop culture and Filipino kitsch references. His works usually a spontaneous reaction of contemporary artist to old classical art.

He was already an established large conceptual artist in Philippines when he moved to NY in 2002. He explored illustrations and paintings out of frustration from not having a big space to work on. Since then he exhibited at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, d.u.m.b.o. arts center, Asian American Arts Centre, The Contemporary Museum in Hawaii, The Queens Museum of NY, The Krannert Museum in Illinois, Exit Art, Pulse Art Fair in Miami and numerous galleries in the Philippines.

ART- PRESTIGIOUS CANADIAN COLLECTION OF GEORGE HARTMAN AND ARLENE GOLDMAN TO BE SOLD AT CHRISTIE'S

New York – Christie’s is auctioning the prestigious collection of well-known international collectors Arlene Goldman and George Hartman. Approximately 100 works will be sold during the First Open live auction on September 23rd as well as the First Open Online sale from September 18th to 30th.

 Highlights from the Goldman and Hartman collection include works in all media that reflect Twenty-First Century tendencies of experimentation, often embracing global cultural tendencies emanating from Europe and Africa as well as Canada and the United States.

 The auction titled "This is Now: Property from the George Hartman and Arlene Goldman Collection" accurately reflects the adventuresome and keen eye of collectors operating at the forefront of the international art world

.



Highlighting the sale is Joe Bradley’s Berlin Duck #2, (estimate $500,000-700,000), which displays the organic, rather than calculated, process the painter developed.


Mark Bradford’s Tony, a rare sculptural work which is an ideal example of Bradford’s appropriation and manipulation of advertisements and posters, and his repurposing of visual pollution into stunning condensations of urban life, drawn from his native South Central Los Angeles, California, (estimate: $120,000-$180,000).

ART- "THE BANKNOTE PROJECT" BY STEFAN KUHN

Andy Warhol once said that “Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art. “ But art and money have very controversial and complex relationship with each other, even though they are both have almost have the identical characteristics. Both are a symbols of something else and are driven by supply and demand. There’s even a research study did by Tilberg University and Yale School of Management that states it is the wealth of the wealthy’ that pushes up and drives art prices, and more often that a rise in income inequality may well lead to higher prices for art. But there are still a lot of artists that are uncomfortable on being labeled a “sell-out” .

It’s very interesting to find out that artist Stefan Kuhn created a project based on money. Stefan Kuhn’s “The Banknotes Project” captures the state of flux of global money flow in photos. The artist collected banknotes from different countries. The bills at` all ‘stages of life’ are photographed. Both, ‘hot off the press’ banknotes of active currencies, as well as collectibles and historical commemorative notes or reprints in small print runs. He blended the fonts, cores and backs of the bills into a new perspective. Taking the historical component of each banknote, the changing exchange rate on each reproduction and the date of publication are compared with the current reserve currency for the following period.

HOT MUSICAL ACT - WE WERE EVERGREEN

Parisian alternative indie-pop trio, We Were Evergreen is currently my favourite musical group right now. The musical trio Michael Liot (vocals, ukulele, acoustic guitar, charango, banjo, trumpet) , Fabienne Débarre (vocals, synths, xylophone, harmonica) and Willam Serfass (vocals, percussions, rhythm loop, bass, electric guitar) were bonded in their shared fondness of all kind of pop music and nursery rhymes decided to form the trio in 2008. Their songs are very easy to listen to, sweet and nice without being lip-curling saccharine. There is also a naïve freshness on the way they project themselves in their videos. They manage a perfect balance of sugary and quirky.

This is my favourite song from their latest album - "Towards".  This is probably one of their darkest song.  I could hear a trip-hop influence on this.




DOLCE & GABBANA MEN'S SPRING-SUMMER 2015

Dolce & Gabbana’s probably one of the greatest proponents of “La Dolce Vita”. This time instead of the usual Sicilian reference the designer went to Spain for inspiration. There’s a lot of matador and flamenco dancer influences. The use of flamenco polka dots on the three piece suits is genius. The very low cut waistcoat is beautiful. It almost acts as a corset. I have a feeling that those who are not brave enough to wear those bright suits will be buying those bull printed shirts on the front, specially the tank top one.

PRADA MEN SPRING-SUMMER 2015

Miuccia Prada’s theme for men’s spring summer 2015 is realness. So for this collection there’s a lot of classic Prada 90’s reference. The contrast stitching emphasized the new silhouettes.

Since Prada always leads the way on where the fashion takes it course for  the next few seasons, I’m guessing will be flooded with contrast-stitched garments, 90’s silhouettes outfits for a couple of years.

International superstar DJ Tiesto song “Wasted” featuring the vocals of Matthew Koma is probably the most radio friendly music he has produced. The song has a very rich pop influence. It doesn’t have the hard drops that usually one hears on the dance club . What replaces it are infectious hooks, anthemic beats and melodic synths.

Fashion house RAPANUI launched a collaboration project with WWF (WORL WILDLIFE FUND). The collection is based around the ideas of conservation and climate. Every £3 from every T-shirt and £6 from every sweatshirt sold goes directly to WWF.

The limited edition collection features bold wildlife inspired designs; including a range silhouette cut out designs ‘vanishing species’ which visually demonstrate species threatened by extinction. Oslo based Norwegian duo Nico and Vinz’ “Am I Wrong” is soulful pop song infused with world beats. “Am I wrong” is a sumptuous, warm and catchy pop song that you would definitely want to listen on repeat.

French DJs Faul and Wad Ad VS PNAU’s “Changes” is just a wonderful minimalist deep-house music. I love how the how the jazzy sax-riff just float around the warm summery beats. The childish chants “Baby, I don't know/ Just why I love you so," is so irresistible.

Strange Fruit” is a great short film by Shimi Asresay and Hili Noy that deals with the phenomena of racism as an acquitted cultural epidemic.

The film is an allegory that question our personal conscience versus the bigotry that we receive from our environment, families and culture. This short animation shows how we can quickly form hatred and fear towards someone different or foreign from us.

I’m excited about this new TV show from ABC. Finally Hollywood decided to do another TV show that focuses on Asian family. Margaret Cho’s “All American Girl” got canceled in 1995.

The show “Fresh of the Boat” is a half-hour, single-camera comedy that is based on the memoir of Eddie Huang, a chef and restaurateur.  Set in Orlando in the 1990s. It follows the misadventures of Eddie as a 12-year-old kid with his Taiwanese immigrant family experiencing culture shock as they move to Florida.

SOUNDTRACK OF THE DAY- DJ SNAKE & LIL JON "TURN DOWN FOR WHAT"

If you are looking for a music to twerk and go down to like there’s no tomorrow “Turn Down For What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon is the one. The bass drop and Lil Jon random screams are perfect combo to make anyone hype-up and amped-up.

The video is also as powerful as the music. Director Daniel created a bunch of #WTF clips. The video is completely absurd, inappropriate and extremely mesmerizing. The ridiculous Asian guy’s super crotch and the mom’s asymmetrical bouncing breast are very hypnotizing. No wonder the video had 34 million view within just few months.

AKIRA PROJECT - LIVE ACTION TRAILER

The anime Akira is one of the most loved epic anime films. (I posted about it years ago here.) There are so many fans clamoring to make it into a live action film. A group of fans launced an Indiegogo campaign last July to create a fan-trailer of Akira. So here's the final product. The production was shot in Montreal (Yay Canada!). I love that Osric Chau who was prophet Kevin Tran from Supernatural played the character Kenada Shotaro.

“Stole Dance” is by German alternative pop folk rock duo called Milky Chance made up of Clemens Rehbein as vocalist and musician and Philipp Dausch as DJ. Their music is a mixture of pop, folk, reggae and electronic. Aside from the strong powerful lyrical punch of the song “Stolen Dance”, I love the crispy guitar strings.

SHORT FILM - "B-CLASS CULTURAL HERITAGE" BY YUJI HARIU

Here's a short film that won the Audience Award for Best International Short Film at Florida Film Festival 2014.

“Crazy” is a cute and catchy pop song from currently one of the hottest Pop Male singer in Denmark Christopher (yes no last name like just Madonna and Cher).
Danish Music Award winner Christopher became a nationwide sensation in Denmark when he did a great acoustic cover of Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend".
“Crazy” is the first single from his second album “I Told You So”.

ART- THE BROAD PRESENTS JEFF KOON AND JOHN WATERS

Presented by the BROAD Museum, the “The Baron of Bad Taste” cult filmmaker John Waters speaks with “King of Kitsch” Jeff Koons.

 

The Broad is a new contemporary art museum being built by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. The museum, which is designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, will open to the public in 2015.

EXCERPT FROM THE DOCUMENTARY FILM "DIOR AND I "

Following his successful fashion films Dian Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel and Valentino: The Last Emperor, film maker Frédéric Tcheng directed a new fashion documentary “Dior and I”.

The film will give us a chance to explore the wonderful Dior’s atelier through the eyes of the newly hired Belgian designer Raf Simons. In “Dior and I” shows the behind-the-scene look at the creation of Raf Simons highly anticipated first Haute Couture collection as the new Creative Director.  The film shows the elegant history of the House of Dior and the energy of a work in progress.

LACOSTE LIVE TEAMS UP WITH FRENCH ARTIST SANGHON KIM

For spring/summer 2014 capsule collection Lacoste Live teams up with the French artist Sanghon Kim. Sanghon Kim directed a short animation film themed around football, in which the white team players proudly sports an unseen jersey, adorn with a reinterpreted-crocodile crest.

Inspired by 1980’s Japanese sport mangas, this collaboration created a new collection of 10 references for men and women.

Sanghon Kim capsule will be released Mid-May 2014 in Canada at selected Lacoste boutiques.

SOUNDTRACK OF THE DAY - MR PROBZ- WAVES

Here is my soundtrack of the day “Waves” by the Dutch hip hop artist and producer Mr Probz. It so easy to love this song. It has this great combo of melancholic sun-kissed guitar hooks, Mr Probz husky vocals and breezy club beats. This could be another leading contender for this summer-anthem song. Also the video reminds me of one my past relationship, when I got dumped during the middle of a beautiful summer. Everyone was having a great summer season and I on the other hand felt like hell.
