I`m looking again at Stefano Pilati`s Yves Saint Laurent Men`s spring/summer 2012 collection. I love the perfect balance of classicism and modern experimentation. The collection rooted in YSL history is inspired by North Africa. Pilati created strong shoulders coats and jackets mostly double breated, the shorts are wide, pleated and baggy. My favourite part are the lacing and drawstrings details on some of the garments. And of course I love the minimalist element of the collection. But the best part are the shoes - chunky python loafers.
Brooklyn-based fashion brand Serum Versus Venom debuts their first self-published book, entitled A New System of Objects. The volume is a collection of the brand's original designs, photography, collaborative art, and unique philosophy toward the business of fashion. Serum Versus Venom (SVSV) was created in 2003 as a long-term study into the interconnectedness of craft and utility focused on the pursuit of creating a new luxury.
While ultimately focused on creating Bespoke, Made to Measure and short run garments, SVSV also explores home goods, jewelry, media and art as platforms for expression.
SVSV is rooted in an ideological framework for creating high and sustainable value in an over-saturated consumer landscape by colliding elements of hype modernity with traditional product development philosophies, techniques and values. The brand proudly stand in opposition of mass-marketed, mass-produced, mass-consumed fashion. So each of thier garment and object they create can be considered outside the normal boundaries of institutionalized fashion and design.
PART 2 - "MUTA"
Muta directed by Lucrecia Martel is the second installment of"The Miu Miu Women's Tales", "Muta" means both mute and transformation, . The film is a beautiful and cryptic potrayal of an all female world of symbolism, hidden meaning and intrigue.
The surreal narrative is set onboard a ship anchored in tropical sea.
I’m looking again at Givenchy’s Men spring/summer 2012 collection, my favourite show in Paris Men’s fashion Week. I think Ricardo Tisci really successfully managed to create masculine and modern clothes even with the use of kaleidoscopic arrangements of loud prints he called “Bird of Paradise” which could have been easily gone to a bad tacky side. But with Ricardo Tisci's great trained eye the Givenchy men’s collection for next year springs/summer look so refine, fun, romantic and exciting.
Tisci fused the bright coloured prints with sportswear and street clothes, mixing mesh basketball shirts, Bermuda shorts, sweatshirts, kilts and leggings. The result is a collection that is fashion forward and very inspired.
It will be very interesting how this look will trickle down to the lower market. I think fast fashion will have a hard time copying the exquisite and effortlessly cool look of this collection
The 19th edition of AltaRomAltaModa was held from July 08 to July 11 as part of Alta Roma, Rome fashion week . AltaRoma is the flatform for Rome’s linking modern design to the traditional luxury craftmanship. 12 Haute Couture Maisons showcased their collections. Well established Roman maison like Balestram Curiel Gattinoni, Abed mahfrouz, showed thier colection allong side with other international designers Abed Mahfouz, Tony Ward, Jack Guisson, Giaa Curti and Nino Lettieri.
There is an assumption that men’s fashion is generally conservative, boring and lacks drama. But Rene Gurskov is one of contemporary designers who are proving that menswear can be exciting and dramatic. For his spring/summer 2012 he was inspired by costume dramas from BBC which are usually all about love, class, money and sex.
There’s a romantic and softer feeling in his current collection which comprise pastel colours in doodle patterns, fringes and lace. Touches of 80’s disco element are added in boys’ uniform and sportswear.
