I always love watching Romeo Gigli’s men’s show. It seems always fun and relax, not to mention the amazing clothes. Known for distinct design and one’s that doesn’t follow trends designer Gentucca Bini stayed true to the form and essence of the label. For spring/summer 2009 Romeo Gigli made a menswear collection based on women wear without being effete or doing the obvious sequins, bows and skirts.
A great amount of research in fabrics and constructions because this season Romeo Gigli used typically winter fabrics like Tartan, Price of Wales and checks and used it for summer. The results are romantic, conceptual, relax and lightweight clothes. The usual destructured Gigli jackets got an added touch of MOD and Japanese origami that you could see on the pockets and softened rounded lapels.
You could argue that this collection is groundbreaking in terms of the silhouette. The shapes are very wide and comfortable and the lines are very languid. You could see the gracefulness of every clothes on how it drape the body as if the design was inspired not just by the body itself but the essence of the personality inside the body.
Also love how the Romeo Gigli’s footwear is all light, in soft leather and bi-coloured: sky blue and white or grey and white, slightly retro, laced, but able to lose their toes and become sabots.
