ffiXXed AUTUMN / WINTER 2010 COLLECTION “WE ARE BUILDING A CIVILIZED SPACE HERE"

Using fashion as a medium for discussion about contemporary culture, the label ffiXXED, which is a collaborative art and design project that started in Berlin in 2008 by Australian Artist/Designer Kain Picken and Fiona Lau, approach the world of design through exploring geographic diversity and multidisciplinary proposition. Since its beginning the label has moved towards where the center of global action: New York, Berlin, Hong Kong. Right now they established a multifunctional in-house studio in Shenzhen China.

Here is ffiXXed Autumn/Winter 2010 collection titled “We are Building A Civilized Space Here” that coincides with the ffiXXed opening of new production studio in Shenzhen, China. The collection was developed between New York, Hong Kong, and China.

"The spaces once defined as either work or life are everywhere disintegrating. ffiXXed respond by producing garments to accompany the unfolding of our daily lives, in the home/office/apartment/studio and elsewhere. By occupying a space in-between these areas, they generate new and unexpected, trans-functional forms for everyday basics. Utilizing quality natural fibers such as wools, wool/silks and wool/linens, together with hand knitted Peruvian wools and luxurious Alpaca/Angora blends; they address, transcend and stimulate a variety of social and domestic situations.

Central to the collection is a digital print by artist James Deutsher from the exhibition ‘We Are Building A Civilized Space here’ shown at Y3K gallery in Melbourne."

My favourite from the collection are the Chunky hand knits especially the knitted laptop cover, the flyer jacket and the scarf bomber jacket.
