When I was a kid I always looked forward watching Saturday morning cartoons and Hanna-Barbara’s were my favourite. I love Super Friends battling the Legends of Doom. My grade school notes have more drawings of Super heroes than the actual class lectures. As a little kid I was innocently attracted to Superman and Aquaman (go figure). I wanted to look like them so much that for two years I wore a Superman costume every night in bed. (It was a gift from Santa Claus).
Another one I truly enjoyed was Jonny Quest. I was fascinated by Johnny’s adventure and envied him for having two amazing male figures. Who would think they were the first perfect gay family? Now I think Dr. Benton Quest bottoms for Race Banon and Jonny and Hadji grew up falling in love with each other, of course Bandit is the ever first gay dog that paved the way to Sparky of South Park.
Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Wacky Races, The Yogi Bear Show… there so many shows to list that I love watching as a kid and still enjoyed watching it now. Old Hanna-Barbera cartoons may not be politically correct now but they still fun to watch. Being the first animation studio to produce shows for TV and much more for primetime, The Simpsons, South Park, Family Man to name few owe their success and mere existence to Hanna-Barbera.
So Thank you Joseph Barbera for all the wonderful works you have done.
