SOUNDTRACK OF THE DAY - "BORDERS" BY M.I.A.

Bravo for Rapper M.I.A. for releasing a timely compelling new music video that showcase the plight of refugees.  Her self-directed video features powerful images of different controversial migrations. In addition, the lyrics of the song also criticized governments that demonize refugees, creating a divided society of "Us versus Them.

ART HAPPENING- TATE MUSEUM PRESENT "ARTIST & EMPIRE"

The new Tate Museum exhibits “Artist & Empire” questions the viewers if the British Empire is their nation greatest triumph or disgrace. It aims to show that the amazing glory of the empire came with also amazing cost. It also examines how the Empire have shaped arts from the past to the present. The show features the art associated with the British Empire from the 16th century to the present day. It includes a massive array of objects from collections across Britain, including maps, flags, paintings, photographs, sculptures and artefacts.

ART HAPPENING - KARL HAENDEL: ORGANIC BEDFELLOW, FERAL OTHELLO @ MITCHELL-INNES & NASH

Los Angeles-based artist Karl Haendel who makes drawings, installations, films and public projects has an exhibition at Mitchell-Innes & Nash New York, Chelsea gallery through December 05, 20015.  The multilayered exhibition features large, labor-intensive pencil drawings situated within an immersive monochromatic installation.

For his exhibition at Mitchell-Innes & Nash, titled “Organic Bedfellow, Feral Othello”, Haendel sets up an immersive black and white environment of juxtaposing narratives, tracing our animalistic nature to evolve and transform against tendencies towards devolution.

ART INSPIRATION - ELENA VAVARO

Milan-based Italian artist Elena Vavaro portraits are a study in contradiction.  Every one of her subjects has a very solid look, but they are painted in a very fluid manner.  The staining techniques that form a watery vein like texture  gave each subject multiple layers of emotions.
