DOCUMENTARY: GERHARD RICHTER - PAINTING

Considered to be one of the world's greatest living painters, the 80 year old German artist Gerhard Richter has created works that experimented with range of techniques and ideas that addressed historical crises and mass media representation. The first glimpse inside his studio in decades, GERHARD RICHTER PAINTING is exactly that: a thrilling document of the 79-year-old's creative process, juxtaposed with rare archival footage and intimate conversations with his critics and collaborators.

Corinna Belz’s documentary, Gerhard Richter Painting, follows Mr. Richter in his studio as he works on his iconic abstract paintings. The film will be release on selected theatres this March.

ANA LOCKING FALL/WINTER 2012-2013

Ana Locking is one of my favourite Spanish fashion label. I think Ana Gonzalez is really one of the most talented designers right now. She presented her fall/winter 2012-2013 collection a few weeks ago in Madrid Fashion Week. I love the architectural tailoring of the clothes. Ana Locking always know how to do amazing colour blocking techniques. The collection is a very modern take of the 1920’s style.

Y-3 FALL/WINTER 2012-2013

Yohji Yamamoto’s Adidas line Y-3 fall/winter 2012-2013 collection was showed in New York’s Soho district last Sunday, February 12. Inspired by nomadic culture of Central Asia, the collection fused tradition and modernity together.

Y-3 played with the idea of how nomadic tribes combine different traditional ethnic elements with modern sportswear. Y-3 offered a lot of long wool coats with equally long silken graphic scarves, nubby fleece knits, and shearling jackets. There were also a lot of leopard prints.

NATIVE SON FALL/WINTER 2012-2013

Modern menswear label Native Son shoed their fall/winter 2012-2013 collection on Thursday in New York. For this season Native Son collaborated with Raleigh Denim to capture the perfect balance of “referencing the past, existing in the present and looking forward to the future”.

In the era of disposable fast fashion it is very inspiring that a fashion label like Native Son tries to pursue integrity and craftsmanship, regardless of cost or time.

"GIVE ME ALL YOUR LUVIN" BY MADONNA (FEAT. MI.I.A. AND NICKI MINAJ)

Here is the much anticipated Madonna’s new video of her first single titled “Give Me All Your Luvin” from her soon to be released latest album. It features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. I guess she was right when she said on the interview that her new album will be all about the “Madonna” DNA. The sweet pop sound that she used to sing early on her career, the midrib baring top with giant crucifix necklace during her “Boy Toy- Like A Virgin” era, the Marylyn Monroe look during the “Blonde Ambition” period were all present. I guess she has the right to reclaim them, since almost all of the other pop female artists that followed her have been using and every bits of Madonna’s DNA on their own works. I’m surprised she didn’t used JellyBean Benitez to produced it
I like it. Sometimes people just need a fun, light, catchy pop song that they can groove into. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.

WHERE WERE THE ASIAN MALE MODELS IN MILAN & PARIS FASHION WEEK FALL/WINTER 2012-2013 ?

It has already been widely reported that the Asian market is the largest shares and has fastest growing rates in luxury goods consumption. Just to iterate, Japan, largely unaffected by recession, consumes about 25% of luxury goods and as twice the average rate as Americans. As of 2010, China equalled Japan in their shares of luxury consumption. It also predicted by almost every financial analyst that by 2015 China will surpass Japan as the largest consumers in luxury market. Other Asia emerging markets like Korea, Singapore and Thailand are becoming the fastest growing driving force in luxury spending. Asia-Pacific saw a 33.5 percent rise in market growth

Luxury companies are promoting the allure of their rich heritage and exquisite craftsmanship which Asian luxury consumers find desirable. But, it also need to be noted that Asian consumers and more of the luxury ones would prefer to buy products that were designed and incorporated with imageries that are related to them.

So now this is why I am asking, how come there were few Asian male models walked the men’s fall/winter 2012-2013 in Milan and Paris? Milan has a total of 54 looks out of 17 fashion shows with an average of 2 Asian male models per show, while Paris has 27 looks out of 16 shows with an average of 1 Asian male model per show. Dolce and Gabbana did the best among the rest of the fashion houses, by having 9 looks out of 7 Asian male models at their show. Dolce and Gabbana even flew in Chinese fitness and fashion model royalty Ji Haunbo (Rock). Other Asian male models in their show were Hao Yun Xiang, Jerry Fu, Fei Wang, Philip Huang, Zhao Lei, Jae Yoo. Giorgio Armani rank second with 6 looks and 3 Asian male models for his Emporio Armani show and 5 looks and 3 Asian male models for his Giorgio Armani collection.
