080 Barcelona Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2008

Since fashion has been major industry in Barcelona since the end of 18th century, so it’s just natural for the city to hold a special event called 080 Barcelona “Fashion is Everywhere”, an event that occurred on July 09 to 11 that turned the city into a fashion festival with fashion shows, showrooms, conferences, exhibitions and special sales. Below are some of the photos from the show

Yiorgos Eleftheriades

Urban sci-fi is the main theme of the show. The collection is all about geometric silhouette and bondage inspired belts and bands to accentuate the body. By mixing a sharp, geometric silhouette and graphic accessories with soft, natural fabrics Yiorgos tried to infuse a futuristic element with a very casual everyday attitude.

Roberto Piqueras
The collection is inspired by Nu Rave. Transparent shirts for men and most of them somehow resembling a plastic bag, Geometric prints, high-waisted pants.

Joseph Abril

It's a bright, colourful collection. There's a lot pantsuits and flood pants.

Boris Bidjan Saberi

The whole collection is based on NET. It is used in the army to camouflage weapons or faces. Black knitt wear.

Antonio Miro
Designer has chosen single-breasted blazers in washed shades, flood pants, fisherman trousers and Eighties-style bermudas.

Thierry Mugler Retrospective

One of the main attractions of the event was a major retrospective show depicted the long career of design doyen Thierry Mugler.

Hintmag Lee Carter made a video of the show here.

I love Mugler's innovative design. He really played on the women’s shape.I think the video that really higlighted his edgy, over the top sexuality and revolutionary design is George Michael "Too Funky" with Linda Evangelista, Tyra Banks and Julie Newmar.

I love Mugler! Does he still design clothes or he's retired now?

For the life of me, I will never understand why any designer thinks any man, straight, gay, drag queen or otherwise would want to wear some of this shit! They may think its outrageous, most real people just think it looks stupid. That stuff by Roberto Piqueras just looks he ran out of ideas and tried to pull off crap like that and call it "fashion" Give me a break!

Hehehe I think the Piqueras' plastic bag creations are designed for people who likes dating ugly guys.

I visited Barcelona in July, the time when summer sales start, so I was able to shop till I drop :)) for bargain prices. If you go to Barcelona in winter, sales start around January 10th.My favorite Spanish store is Bershka, located in Av. Portal d´Angel. Clothes here are really cool and also really cheap. If you're into designer clothes, Av. Diagonal is the place for you. Shops along here include Calvin Klein, Armani, Versace and Gucci. One last thing, stay away from Las Ramblas when going shopping. This is a popular tourist attraction so things are really overpriced.
But I will never buy such ugly clothes like on this video.
